Cheick Diallo (1960, Mali) is an architect and designer whose design projects speak to a Malian making tradition of using discarded materials and working mostly by hand. Fishing wire, nylon, and metal come together to form an iconic armchair with a strong architectural aesthetic. Through Diallo Design Studio, his team of artisans manufacture finely crafted furniture and domestic objects from salvaged materials such as old tyres, bottle tops, cans, and computer batteries using make-do-methods. Diallo is the founder of the de Association of African Designers (ADA), which he has chaired since 2004. His work has been exhibited internationally at the Dakar Biennale, Design Biennale Liege, Gwangju Biennale, and the Design Biennale in Saint-Étienne.
